È considerato il prototipo del genere blaxploitation.[1] Tratto da un romanzo giallo dello scrittore Chester Himes, il film ha avuto due seguiti: Harlem Detectives, diretto nel 1972 da Mark Warren, e Rabbia ad Harlem, diretto nel 1991 da Bill Duke.
Trama
Gravedigger Jones (Godfrey Cambridge) e Coffin Ed Johnson (Raymond St. Jacques) sono due poliziotti afroamericani dai modi bruschi e dalla reputazione da veri duri. Sulla loro strada trovano il reverendo Deke O'Malley (Calvin Lockart), che estorce del denaro alla gente afroamericana promettendo loro una vita migliore in Africa.

Cotton Comes to Harlem is a 1970 American neo-noir[2] action comedy thriller film[3] co-written and directed by Ossie Davis and starring Godfrey Cambridge, Raymond St. Jacques, and Redd Foxx.[4] The film, later cited as an early example of the blaxploitation genre, is based on Chester Himes' novel of the same name.[5] The opening theme, "Ain't Now But It's Gonna Be," was written by Ossie Davis and performed by Melba Moore. The film was one of the many black films that appeared in the 1970s and became an overnight hit.
