Emily Margaret Watson, OBE (* 14. Januar 1967 in Islington, London), ist eine britische Schauspielerin.

Leben und Karriere

Obwohl ihr dreimal die Aufnahme in die Schauspielschule verweigert wurde, stieß Watson 1992 zur Royal Shakespeare Company.

Watson war 1997 für ihr Debüt in Breaking the Waves und 1999 für Hilary & Jackie – in dem sie die Cellistin Jacqueline du Pré darstellte – für einen Oscar in der Kategorie Beste Hauptdarstellerin nominiert. Für Breaking the Waves wurde ihr auch der Europäische Filmpreis ebenfalls in der Kategorie Beste Hauptdarstellerin verliehen. Obwohl sie fast nur im Independent-Bereich tätig ist, übernahm sie die Rolle der Reba McClane in Roter Drache, im selben Jahr spielte sie eine Nebenrolle in Equilibrium. In der englischen Synchronisation des deutschen Animationsfilms Back to Gaya sprach sie eine der Figuren, ebenso wie in Corpse Bride – Hochzeit mit einer Leiche.

Watson ist seit 1995 mit ihrem Schauspielkollegen aus Der Boxer, Jack Waters, verheiratet und hat mit ihm eine Tochter (* 2005) und einen Sohn (* 2009).[1] 2015 wurde sie mit dem Order of the British Empire ausgezeichnet.[2]

Emily Margaret Watson OBE (born 14 January 1967)[1] is an English actress. She began her career on stage and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1992. In 2002, she starred in productions of Twelfth Night and Uncle Vanya at the Donmar Warehouse, and was nominated for the 2003 Olivier Award for Best Actress for the latter. She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her debut film role as Bess McNeil in Lars von Trier's Breaking the Waves (1996) and for her role as Jacqueline du Pré in Hilary and Jackie (1998), winning the British Independent Film Award for Best Actress for the latter. For her role as Margaret Humphreys in Oranges and Sunshine (2010), she was also nominated for the AACTA Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role.
