James Edward Costa (born May 12, 1990) is an American actor, producer, writer, director and voice actor known for being Obi-Wan "Ben" Kenobi and Han Solo in the fan films Kenobi: A Star Wars Story and Han Solo: A Smuggler's Trade, and his impersonations of Robin Williams,[1] Ian McKellen, and Harrison Ford.
Jamie Costa was born on May 12, 1990, and grew up in Charleston, South Carolina. He attended private Christian schools up until high school when he was sent to a military boarding school in V.A. where he ended up graduating highest-ranking cadet.[2] He briefly attended college at The Citadel and eventually ended up studying theatre at North Greenville University in South Carolina. He took a semester to study film in Los Angeles [3] then finally graduated in December 2013.[4]
Early in his career he gained much attention online specifically Vine for his impressions. Most notably Robin Williams,[5] Ian McKellen, Owen Wilson, Johnny Depp, George W. Bush, Jeff Goldblum, Matthew McConaughey and Harrison Ford.[6]
In July 2015, Jamie moved to LA to continue his career in acting and filmmaking and has since appeared in various film and television projects both on screen and as a voice over artist. He has appeared in many high quality fan projects and has also produced and acted in multiple Star Wars, "Fan films"[7] hosted on his YouTube channel that have been well received both by filmmakers and fans alike with generous views on each.
Though once very active on social media he has now stepped away from it as of 2020. He is also an accomplished commercial producer having produced (and acted in) numerous commercials for the men's grooming company Manscaped. He credits his acting coach Myra Turley for helping him develop into a working actor.[8] He continues to work on passion projects and establish himself in the industry.
As of 2022, in an interview with Silver Screen Magazine, Jamie announced that he will have a guest role on one of the episodes for the Netflix Adult Animated Series: Agent King starring Matthew McConaughey as Elvis, and will be working on an original series called Hollywood Tall Tales with director and writer, Jake Lewis. Jamie also announced he will be doing feature films with bigger roles and is currently working on developing a biopic.[9]
In 2021, Costa uploaded a five minute piece of test footage titled, "ROBIN Test Footage Scene," which stars Costa as Robin Williams. The scene shows Williams in his trailer preparing for an episode of Mork & Mindy. While doing so, his co-star Pam Dawber (portrayed by Sarah Murphee) enters and brings news of John Belushi's passing, with Williams' reaction.[10]
The footage has been received positive responses from critics and audiences, with Costa's performance being the subject of articles from outlets such as CNN,[11] USA Today,[12] The National Post,[13] and People Magazine.[14] The footage sparked fans' interest for a feature length biographical film starring Costa.[15]
After having the footage having been repeatedly sent to her, Williams' daughter, Zelda Williams wrote, "I've seen it. Jamie is SUPER talented, this isn't against him, but y'all spamming me an impression of my late Dad on one of his saddest days is weird."[16][10]
