Martin was born in Turlock, California.[1] He attended at University of Florida for which Martin earned his degree based on political science.[1] Martin began his career in 1980, where he appeared in the film Hotwire. He guest-starred in television programs including Dallas, 7th Heaven, Hotel, The Love Boat, T.J. Hooker, Three's Company, Columbo and Archie Bunker's Place.[1] Martin appeared in films such as Night Game, The Underneath, Silkwood, Fire in the Night, and El Norte.[1] In 1988, he starred in the film Black Roses, where he played Matthew Moorhouse.[2]
Martin played the role of lawyer Jon Russell in the soap opera television series One Life to Live[3] from 1986 to 1989, with also reprising his role from 1991 to 1992.[1] He then appeared in General Hospital from 1991.[1] Martin played the role of Hank Cummings in the soap opera television series Sunset Beach from 1997 to 1999.[1] He also played the role of Frederick Hodges in The Young and the Restless[4] for which his character was the husband of Anita Hodges (Mitzi Kapture) and father of Brittany Hodges (Lauren Woodland).[5] Martin played the role from 2002 to 2005.[1]
In 2010, Martin joined the cast in playing the role of Bill Horton in the soap opera television series Days of Our Lives.[4] He also played the role of Ron Mitchell in Mistresses from 2013 to 2014. Martin employs his acknowledge consulting firm.[1]
