Primarily a stage actor, he has worked extensively in theatre in London. He has worked in film and TV from a young age. Most recently he has performed in the National Theatre's acclaimed production of Trouble In Mind as well as at BAM, New York and Wyndhams Theatre in the West End as Jamie in Long Day's Journey Into Night directed by Sir Richard Eyre, and at The Donmar Warehouse in Saint Joan and Welcome Home Captain Fox![1]
Previous work at The Royal National Theatre includes The Kitchen, Damned By Despair and Liola, as well as the acclaimed Philadelphia Here I Come[2] and Dublin Carol at the Donmar Warehouse.
He has also performed many leading roles in Ireland, having worked from an early age at The Abbey Theatre, as well as the title roles in Hamlet and Macbeth, the latter of which landed him Best Actor at 11th The Irish Times Irish Theatre Awards.[3]
On television he was seen recently in Channel 4's lauded Somewhere Boy, Netflix's The Duchess, BBC's Versailles, War & Peace and Peaky Blinders.
Very recently Rory also wrote and directed his debut film BUMP, which has received awards from major international film festivals.
In 2019, he married actress Gemma Arterton.[4]
On 4 November, Gemma Arterton confirmed that she is expecting her first child with Rory Keenan. [5]
