Charles Barton (25 de mayo de 1902 – 5 de diciembre de 1981) fue un director cinematográfico, y también actor de vodevil y cinematográfico de nacionalidad estadounidense. Ganó el Premio Oscar al mejor ayudante de dirección en 1933.[1] Su primer film como director fue el largometraje Wagon Wheels, protagonizado por Randolph Scott en 1934.

Biografía


Nacido en San Francisco, California, inició su carrera artística haciendo pequeños papeles en representaciones de vodevil. Posteriormente, Barton trabajó en Hollywood en varias unidades dedicadas al cine de serie B. A partir de 1946 fue el principal director de las comedias de Bud Abbott y Lou Costello, entre ellas The Time of Their Lives y Africa Screams. Más adelante dirigió películas de Walt Disney como The Shaggy Dog y Toby Tyler.

Para la televisión, fue director del The Amos 'n Andy Show de la CBS desde 1950 a 1954, trabajando también en diversos episodios de la serie de Ray Milland Meet Mr. McNutley entre 1953 y 1955. Entre otras producciones televisivas, Barton fue el director de 106 episodios de la sitcom de la CBS Mis adorables sobrinos (1967 a 1971).

Charles Barton falleció en Burbank, California, en 1981, a causa de un infarto agudo de miocardio. Había estado casado con la actriz y cantante Julie Gibson y con la actriz Lois Austin.
