Dirigió, escribió y produjo varias de las películas más taquilleras de los años 80 y 90, como Sixteen Candles (1984), The Breakfast Club (1985), Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986), la saga de Home Alone, 1, 2 y 3 (1990, 1992 y 1997), Curly Sue (1991), Beethoven (1992), 101 Dalmatians (1996), etc. Además, escribió la popular Pretty in Pink (1986).

Biografía

Hughes nació en Lansing, Míchigan, de una madre que se dedicaba a la caridad como voluntaria y de John Hughes Sr., que trabajaba en ventas.[1] Pasó los primeros doce años de su vida en Grosse Pointe, Míchigan.[2] Hughes se describía a sí mismo como un niño «bastante tranquilo».[3] Falleció en Nueva York el 6 de agosto de 2009, a causa de un paro cardíaco.[4][5]

Se lo conoce como el rey de las películas de adolescentes, así como por ayudar a lanzar las carreras de actores, incluyendo a Michael Keaton, Molly Ringwald, Anthony Michael Hall, Bill Paxton, Matthew Broderick, Macaulay Culkin y John Candy. Hughes began his career in 1970 as an author of humorous essays and stories for the National Lampoon magazine.
