Primeros años

Nació en Adelaida (Australia)[1] y creció en Warnertown, cerca de Port Pirie. El teatro de Port Pirie recibió su nombre en su honor.[4]

Carrera

Michell enseñó arte hasta que debutó en obras teatrales en Adelaida en 1947 y luego actuó en Londres en 1951.[5] Ha protagonizado varios musicales, incluyendo la producción de El hombre de La Mancha, en donde dio vida tanto a Miguel de Cervantes como a su inmortal creación, Don Quijote de La Mancha.[6] En 1964, dio vida a Robert Browning, el protagonista del musical Robert And Elizabeth, junto a June Bronhill.[7]

Michell actuó con el Teatro Shakespeare Memorial, y también apareció en varias películas y televisión, destacando en sus interpretaciones del rey Enrique VIII, en The Six Wives of Henry VIII en 1970, y de Heathcliff, en Cumbres Borrascosas.[8] En la televisión estadounidense, Michell ha aparecido en Murder, She Wrote, interpretando a Dennis Stanton.[9]

Vida personal

Keith Joseph Michell (1 December 1926 – 20 November 2015) was an Australian actor who worked primarily in the United Kingdom, and was best known for his television and film portrayals of King Henry VIII. He appeared extensively in Shakespeare and other classics and musicals in Britain, and was also in several Broadway productions. He was an artistic director of the Chichester Festival Theatre in the 1970s and later had a recurring role on Murder, She Wrote. He was also known for illustrating a collection of Jeremy Lloyd's poems Captain Beaky, and singing the title song from the associated album.
