Primeros años

Devine nació en Houston, Texas. Su madre, Eunice O'Neal, era una esteticista, y su padre, James Devine, trabajaba como un obrero.[1]

Carrera

Devine apareció en la película A Broadway Musical. Capturó la atención en Dreamgirls, un musical de Broadway. Se estrenó el 20 de diciembre de 1981.
