Barry nació en Cincinnati, Ohio. Comenzó su carrera como actor actuando en la película Schemes (1994). Durante los años 1990 trabajó en otras películas como Congo (1995), The American President (1995), Independence Day (1996), Ghosts of Mississippi (1996), Air Force One (1997), Steel (1997), o Major League: Back to the Minors (1998), y trabajó en series como The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air (1990), Chicago Hope (1994), Babylon 5 (1994), o The Client (1995).

In the 1980s, he was a disc jockey[1] for WUBE-FM in Cincinnati.[2] He appeared in television advertisements for The Home Depot, Sears, and United Parcel Service, and did voice acting for the TV series The Incredible Hulk and The Wild Thornberrys.[1] In 2014, The Hollywood Reporter described the actor as best known for playing Detective Will Jeffries on the TV series Cold Case.[3]
