Dayamanti (दमयंती) est un personnage de la mythologie hindoue dont l'histoire est contée dans le Mahabharata.

Damayanti est la Princesse du Royaume de Vidarbha.

Nala est le fils du roi de Nishadha et le plus beau de tous les hommes, le plus habiles des écuyers, soumis aux dieux et brave à la guerre.

Damayanti tombe amoureuse de Nala sans le connaître et tombe dans la mélancolie. Son père décide alors de convoquer tous les souverains du pays à une fête du svayamvara (स्वयं‍वर, « choix personnel », la fête des fiançailles où elle doit choisir son époux).

Sur la route pour se rendre à l'événement, Nala croise quatre dieux, Indra, Agni, Varuna et Yama, qui prétendent être également amoureux de Damayanti et qui lui demandent de lui transmettre leurs vœux.

Damayanti (Sanskrit: दमयंती) is a character in a love story found in the Vana Parva book of the Mahabharata.[1] She was the daughter of Bhima (not the Pandava one) and a princess of the Vidarbha Kingdom, who married King Nala of the Nishadha Kingdom. The character is also found in other Hindu texts by many authors in numerous Indian languages.[2] She, along with Nala, are the central characters in the 12th century text Nishadha Charita, one of the five mahakavyas (great epic poems) in the canon of Sanskrit literature,[3][4]: 136  written by Sriharsha.
