K. S. Ravi (1959 2010 ) was an Indian film director of Tamil and Telugu films. His films included a mixture of genres from dramas to action thrillers.

Early life


Ravi finished his schooling in Delhi and did his graduation in Tiruchirappalli. Despite being a gold-medalist in engineering, he chose cinema as his career. From 1989 to 1990, he was an assistant director to prominent film director Mani Ratnam for the movie Anjali, before breaking on his own in 1993. Ravi also worked as an assistant director to Major Sundarrajan in the film Andha Oru Nimidam.


Personal life


Ravi was born in 1959 in Paramakudi, Ramnad district. He was born to Mr. Karpurasundharam, an ex-serviceman, and Mrs. Vasantha Karpurasundharam. He has three siblings: Rajan, Kripakaran and Latha. He married Ms. Sumathy, and had a daughter named Aishwarya. [1]

He died of cardiac arrest on September 6, 2010.[2]


Career


Ravi's first movie was a Telugu film named Aagraham, produced by Shyam Prasad Reddy and starring Rajasekhar and Amala, was released in 1993. The movie became a super hit, and Ravi received the Nandi Award for it. Later, it was dubbed as Evanayiruntha Enakkenna in Tamil and was also successful.

Ravi's second movie, Honest Raj, was a Tamil film that was released on 14 April 1994. Produced by Sathya Jothi Films Thiagarajan, the film starred Vijayakanth, Gouthami, and Aamani with music by Ilaiyaraaja. The film released to positive reviews. It was renowned cinematographer Ravi K. Chandran's first Tamil movie. The film was remade in Hindi as Rakshak with Sunil Shetty.

Ravi's third movie, Mr. Romeo, released on 10 November 1996. It was produced by R. B. Choudary and starred Prabhu Deva, Bollywood actresses Shilpa Shetty and Madhoo, and Tamil comedian Vadivelu. The film had music by A. R. Rahman.

Ravi's fourth and final film was En Swasa Katre, which released on 26 February 1999. The film starred Arvind Swamy, Isha Koppikar, and Prakash Raj. The music was composed by A. R. Rahman in his second collaboration with Ravi. The film opened to average reviews. Also, Isha Koppikar debuted in the South Indian film industry with this film.


Awards


Ravi secured the most acclaimed "Nandi Award" for his first movie, Aagraham.
