Olivia Newman is an American film director and screenwriter.[1][2] She is best known for directing First Match (2018) and the 2022 feature adaptation of Where the Crawdads Sing.[3]

Newman was born in Hoboken, New Jersey. She holds a B.A. in French and women’s studies from Vassar College and an MFA in film from Columbia University.[4][5] Her first short film, Blue-Eyed Mary was shown at the Portland Oregon Women’s Film Festival in 2010.[6]
Olivia´s debut feature film First Match starring Elvire Emanuelle, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Colman Domingo and Jharrel Jerome premiered at the SXSW Film Festival. First Match was released by Netflix in 2018.[7] She directed the 2022 box office hit drama film Where The Crawdads Sing, a Hello Sunshine and 3000 Pictures adaptation of the Delia Owens novel with the same name.[8][9]
