Rao Gari Illu (transl. Home of Mr. Rao) is a 1988 Indian Telugu-language drama film, produced by Y. Surendra under Annapurna Studios and S. S. Creations banner and directed by Tharani Rao. It stars Akkineni Nageswara Rao, Jayasudha and Revathi, while Nagarjuna has given cameo appearance and music was composed by Chakravarthy. The film is loosely based on the 1965 American film The Sound of Music.[2]

The film begins with Anand Rao a Public Prosecutor, who leads a delightful life with his wife Jaya & 5 children. Tragically, Jaya dies in a road accident. Therefrom, Anand Rao becomes a drunkard and his house is completely disintegrated. Whereat, Anand Rao's bestie SP Raghava Rao sends his cousin Shanti as governess to his children. In her acquaintance, they reform and develop a lot of affection toward Shanti. Parallelly, Anand Rao & Raghava Rao always have a rivalry with Tata Rao the underworld mafia broker. They make a sincere effort to seize him and wait for a shot. Meanwhile, Anand Rao's elder daughter Lata is a big fan of Akkineni Nagarjuna. Once, her classmates trap her but her fortune is protected by Nagarjuna only. After a while, Anand Rao and Raghava Rao decide to Shanti's marriage, but the children are not in a position able to leave her. So, they request Anand Rao to knit her which he refuses due to the age factor. As a result, Shanti quits the house. Eventually, Tata Rao kidnaps the children. Finally, Anand Rao saves his children, gets back Shanti, and espouses her.
