The Lost King is an upcoming British comedy-drama film directed by Stephen Frears and written by Steve Coogan and Jeff Pope, about the 2012 discovery of King Richard III's remains in a Leicester car park. The film will star Sally Hawkins as amateur historian Philippa Langley, Coogan as Langley's husband John, and Harry Lloyd as King Richard III. The film will be produced by Pathé, Baby Cow Productions, BBC Film.[1] and Ingenious Media and will be distributed by Pathé in France and Switzerland as a standalone distributor and in the UK via Warner Bros. Pictures. The film will be released in 2022.[2]

In November 2020, it was announced that Stephen Frears was set to direct the film, based on a screenplay written by Steve Coogan and Jeff Pope. Coogan will also co-star in the film.[3] In March 2021, it was announced that Sally Hawkins had joined the cast, as amateur historian Philippa Langley.[4] Principal photography began in April of that year,[5] and took place across a variety of locations in the Edinburgh area, including Morningside[6] and Newtongrange[7]
