Venus is an upcoming horror film directed by Jaume Balagueró starring Ester Expósito. A part of 'The Fear Collection' horror film label,[1] jointly set by Pokeepsie Films and Sony Pictures International Productions in association with Amazon Prime Video, it is loosely based on H. P. Lovecraft's short story "The Dreams in the Witch House".

Featuring according to Balagueró "terror, blood, aberrations and terribly bad people",[1] the fiction is based on H. P. Lovecraft's "The Dreams in the Witch House", transferring the story to a "dirty, modern city" setting in the outskirts of Madrid,[2][1] focusing on "The Venus", a cursed building in Villaverde Sur.[3]
The project was presented at the Sitges Film Festival in October 2021, with the participation of the director Jaume Balagueró, star performer Ester Expósito as well as Álex de la Iglesia, Carolina Bang, Ricardo Cabornero and Iván Losada.[4] The screenplay was penned by Balagueró alongside Fernando Navarro [es].[6] Pablo Rosso [es] worked as cinematographer whereas Luis de la Madrid [es] was responsible for editing.[3] Filming began in November 2021 in Madrid.[1] It moved to Toledo afterwards,[1] shooting in the Santa María de Benquerencia neighborhood ("El Polígono").[2] Filming had already wrapped in February 2022.[5]
