La pellicola, con protagoniste Rachel Weisz e Rachel McAdams, è l'adattamento cinematografico del romanzo Disobbedienza (Disobedience) del 2007 di Naomi Alderman.

Trama

Ronit Krushka, originaria di una comunità ebrea ortodossa londinese, lavora come fotografa a New York dopo aver troncato i rapporti con gli affetti del suo passato. Informata della perdita del padre, un rabbino la cui morte costituisce la prima scena del film, torna a Londra per seguire le cerimonie di sepoltura e la settimana di lutto: qui viene accolta dai suoi vecchi amici, Esti e Dovid, che scopre essere sposati, e che le offrono ospitalità nella loro casa.

Nei pochi giorni della sua permanenza, Ronit si scontra con le convenzioni della comunità che aveva abbandonato, nel rimpianto per il rapporto col padre, mai ricucito, e con una storia di profondo amore lasciata a metà con Esti.

Il primo trailer del film viene diffuso il 1º febbraio 2018.[1]

Distribuzione

Il film è stato presentato al Toronto International Film Festival il 10 settembre 2017 e distribuito nelle sale cinematografiche statunitensi a partire dal 27 aprile 2018,[1] mentre in quelle italiane dal 25 ottobre dello stesso anno.[2]

Disobedience is a 2017 romantic drama film directed by Sebastián Lelio and written by Lelio and Rebecca Lenkiewicz, based on the 2006 novel of the same name by Naomi Alderman. The film stars Rachel Weisz, Rachel McAdams, and Alessandro Nivola. Set in North London, it tells the story of a woman who returns to the strict Orthodox Jewish community for her father's funeral after living in New York for many years, having been estranged from her father and ostracised by the community for a reason that becomes clearer as the story unfolds. The film was produced by Weisz, Ed Guiney, and Frida Torresblanco.
