Distribuzione

Distribuito dalla Gloria, il film uscì nelle sale della Germania Ovest il 30 settembre 1960. In Austria, fu distribuito il 20 gennaio 1961 e a New York venne presentato il 15 aprile 1963. La prima volta che fu trasmesso in televisione fu in Giappone, il 3 maggio 1966.

Del film venne fatta una riedizione che uscì in Austria il 1º febbraio 1972.

L'8 agosto 2016, il film venne proiettato nell'ambito del Festival di Locarno.

Faust is a 1960 West German theatrical film directed by Peter Gorski. It is based on Goethe's Faust (1808) and adapted from the theater production at the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. It stars Peter Gorski's adoptive father Gustaf Gründgens as Mephistopheles and Will Quadflieg as Faust, and was chosen as West Germany's official submission to the 33rd Academy Awards for Best Foreign Language Film, but did not manage to receive a nomination.[1][2] The film also won a Deutscher Filmpreis (transl.: German Movie Award) for an Outstanding Documentary or Cultural Film in 1961.
