Naitō Jōsō (内藤 丈草, 1662 – March 29, 1704) was one of the principal disciples of Bashō,[1] and himself also a respected haiku writer in the Genroku period of Japan. Originally, he was a samurai from Owari, but he had to leave military service due to ill health.[2] Taking up the literary life, he became a devout disciple of Bashō, and when the Master died in 1694, Naito mourned him for a full three years, and remained his devout follower for the rest of his life.

In this Japanese name, the surname is Naitō.

Naitō Jōsō (内藤 丈草?) (1662 – 29 mars 1704) est un des principaux disciples de Matsuo Bashō[1] et lui-même un respecté compositeur de haïku de l'ère Genroku du Japon. Il est d'abord un samouraï originaire d'Owari, mais sa mauvaise santé le contraint à quitter l'état militaire[2]. En embrassant la carrière littéraire, il devient un fervent disciple de Bashō et quand le maître meurt en 1694, Naito en porte le deuil pendant trois ans et en reste un fidèle disciple toute sa vie[3].
