Steve Adams (born Steven Saint Lawrence Adams February 8, 1947) is an American author (nom de plume, Waldo Mellon), and screenwriter.[1][2] He wrote Envy (2004), starring Ben Stiller and Jack Black.[3] Adams conceived the idea with long-time friend Larry David.[4] They met while both were comedy writers for Fridays, a Saturday Night Live inspired show in the early 1980s.[5][6] David also served as executive producer for Envy[7] and many speculate co-wrote it.[8] Adams also wrote Waiting for Forever (2010)[9] starring Tom Sturridge, Rachel Bilson, and Blythe Danner[10] as well as No Stranger Than Love (2015)[11] starring Alison Brie and Colin Hanks.

In 2014, Adams wrote and self-published his first book "What's What And What To Do About It"[12] under the pen name Waldo Mellon[13][14] The book includes a foreword by Larry David who calls Adams "the best writer I know"[15] and quips,"And I’m not just saying that because he has a gun cocked to my temple. I would say it regardless.”[16] The book was published in March 1, 2022 by Seven Stories Press.[17]
