The film deals with a love triangle, with a good measure of values of the high society and those of the liberal culture of the 1960s.
Avalukendru Oru Manam was simultaneously made in Hindi as Duniya Kya Jane.[2] While choosing established actors in Tamil, Sridhar cast newcomers in Hindi to keep the budget lower.[3][4]
The music was composed by M. S. Viswanathan, with lyrics by Kannadasan.[5][6] Ilaiyaraaja, who was Viswanathan's assistant at that time played organ for the song "Malar Edhu".[7][8]
