Bardo will premiere at the 79th Venice International Film Festival in competition for the Golden Lion on September 1, 2022 and is scheduled to be released on Netflix later in the year.
Cast
Production
On March 22, 2020, it was reported that Alejandro González Iñárritu would write, direct, and produce a new film, with filming to be in Mexico and Bradford Young serving as cinematographer and Patrice Vermette as production designer.[3] On March 9, 2021, Griselda Siciliani joined the cast.[4] In July 2021, Grantham Coleman joined the cast of the film.[5]
Principal photography began on March 3, 2021, in Mexico City, Mexico, with Darius Khondji instead serving as cinematographer, alongside Eugenio Caballero working as production designer.[6] Five months of filming were planned in other locations in the Capital and the Estudios Churubusco.[7][8][9] On March 4, 2021, during the filming of one of the scenes in the Historic center of Mexico City, a passerby was arrested for hitting a security member of the production team.[10] In September 2021, it was reported that the film, which would be titled Bardo (or False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths), had completed production.[2]
Release
Bardo will have it world premiere at the 79th Venice International Film Festival. It is scheduled to be released in theaters and on Netflix by the end of the year.[11][12]
