Premise
Loretta McLaughlin was the reporter who broke the story of the Boston Strangler. Along with reporter Jean Cole, McLaughlin challenged the sexism of the era, pursuing the story at personal risk and uncovering corruption that cast doubt on the identity of the strangler.
Ben Kutchins was the film's cinematographer.[6] Filming began on December 6, 2021. A house on 47 Statler Road in Belmont, Massachusetts, stood in for the home of reporter Loretta McLaughlin. Filming took place inside the house between 7:00a.m. and 11:00p.m.[7][8][9] That same day, the Winn Brook Elementary School was transformed into the Cambridge Police Department for second unit filming. The school was paid $5,000 to be in the film and was used between 10:00a.m. and 2:00p.m. (EST).[7][8][10] A tent was set up on school property to take breaks.[8] Several private driveways on Statler and Waterhouse Roads were rented to park 1960s vehicles. The Claflin Street parking lot in Belmont Center was also rented for the crew's personal vehicles.[7] For the next two days, filming took place in the South End; scenes were shot on Dwight Street between Tremont Street and Shawmut Avenue.[8] On December 9, the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology was temporarily turned into a police headquarters for the shoot.[11][12] Between January 26 and January 27, 2022, the former Josephine M. Foster Elementary School at 30 Foster Road in Braintree was used as a set.[13] Filming also took place in Jamaica Plain, Lowell, Lynn, Malden, Roxbury, and Wellesley, Massachusetts.[8][14] Several health procedures had to be followed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The entire crew was vaccinated and tested for the virus three times a week until production concluded.[7] Filming wrapped in March 2022.[15] During post-production, Paul Leonard-Morgan composed the musical score.[16]
