Broken Blossoms is a 1936 British drama film directed by John Brahm and starring Emlyn Williams, Arthur Margetson, Basil Radford and Edith Sharpe. Director Bernard Vorhaus was technical supervisor.[1]

The film is based on the short story "The Chink and the Child" by Thomas Burke from his collection Limehouse Nights (1916), and was produced at Twickenham Studios in London. The story had previously been adapted by D. W. Griffith for his film Broken Blossoms (1919) starring Lillian Gish.


Plot


A Chinese missionary comes to London where he works in the slums and helps a young girl being ill-treated by her abusive father.

Broken Blossoms ist ein 1935 entstandenes, britisches Filmmelodram von Hans Brahm, das dieser mit seiner Frau Dolly Haas auf seinem Zwischenstopp auf der Reise in die Vereinigten Staaten in London inszeniert hatte. Der Film ist ein Remake des Lillian-Gish-Klassikers Eine Blüte gebrochen und hat mit der Erzählung The Chink and the Child zudem eine literarische Vorlage von Thomas Burke.

Giglio infranto (Broken Blossoms) è un film del 1936 diretto da Hans Brahm (John Brahm). Remake del capolavoro di David W. Griffith, il film fu prodotto da Julius Hagen che, nato ad Amburgo nel 1884, aveva lasciato la Germania quando era ancora bambino. Alla lavorazione della pellicola parteciparono altri tedeschi che, invece, avevano lasciato la loro terra dopo la salita al governo dei nazisti: la regia fu affidata a Hans Brahm, la fotografia a Curt Courant - collaboratore di Fritz Lang e poi anche di Alfred Hitchcock -, la musica al galiziano Karol Rathaus mentre tra gli attori vi era Dolly Haas, nota attrice del cinema tedesco e moglie del regista, nel ruolo che nel 1919 era stato di Lillian Gish.
