Godfather is an upcoming Indian Telugu-language political action film directed by Mohan Raja. Produced by Konidela Production Company and Super Good Films, it is a remake of the 2019 Malayalam film Lucifer. The film stars Chiranjeevi alongside Salman Khan (in his Telugu film debut), Nayanthara, Puri Jagannadh and Satyadev Kancharana.

Principal photography of the film began in August 2021 with filming taking place in Hyderabad, Ooty and Mumbai. The music is composed by Thaman S with cinematography handled by Nirav Shah. Godfather is planned to release in cinemas on 5 October 2022, coinciding with the festival of Vijayadashami.
After the death of a political leader, a mysterious man steps in to ascend the throne.
The Telugu remake of the 2019 Malayalam film Lucifer was announced in April 2020 with Chiranjeevi as the lead. Director Sujeeth was signed to helm the project who also started working on the script for the Telugu adaptation.[1] Sujeeth opted out of the project in September 2020 due to creative differences, and V. V. Vinayak was approached in replace him.[2] However, in December 2020, Mohan Raja was confirmed as the director, marking his return to Telugu cinema after 20 years. Hanuman Junction (2001) was his first and only Telugu film until then.[3]
The film was officially launched in January 2021 with a traditional pooja ceremony in Hyderabad. The film marks the maiden collaboration of Chiranjeevi with composer Thaman S. Nirav Shah is signed as the cinematographer.[4] It produced by Konidela Production Company and Super Good Films. The film's title was unveiled as Godfather in August 2021.[5]
In September 2021, Nayanthara, Biju Menon and Satyadev Kancharana entered the talks to sign the film.[6] Nayanthara[7] and Kancharana are confirmed to be part of the cast in November, who will be paired as a married couple.[8] Gangavva plays the role of Chiranjeevi's mother in the film.[9] Director Puri Jagannadh also has a special role.[10] Bigg Boss Telugu season 4 contestant Divi Vadthya also joined the film as Chiranjeevi promised her a role in the season's finale.[11]
In August 2021, Hindi film actor Salman Khan was approached to play a key role in the film.[12] In November, Thaman confirmed that Khan would star alongside Chiranjeevi, in addition to appearing a dance number, thus marking Khan's debut in Telugu cinema.[13] Khan reportedly plays the role of Prithviraj Sukumaran from Lucifer.[14][15]
Principal photography of the film began on 13 August 2021.[16] Filming took place in the outskirts of Hyderabad.[17] The second schedule of the film began in September 2021 in Ooty.[18] Shoot was halted in October as Chiranjeevi underwent a surgery on his right hand which was followed by a 15-day bed rest.[19] He resumed the shoot in November 2021 in Hyderabad.[20]
In January 2022, the actor was tested positive for COVID-19, therefore, had to quarantine himself.[21] The makes, however, proceeded to shoot a few crucial scenes that didn't involve him during which Nayanthara also joined the production.[22] Chiranjeevi joined the sets back in February following his recovery.[23]
Salman Khan completed filming his portions in March 2022 in a week-long schedule at ND Studios, Karjat, Mumbai.[24][25] Khan also shot for a song alongside Chiranjeevi in Hyderabad under the choreography of Prabhu Deva.[26]
The film score and soundtrack album of the film is composed by Thaman S. The music rights were acquired by Saregama.
The first teaser trailer of the film was released on 21 August 2022 coinciding Chiranjeevi's 67th birthday and received mixed reviews from the critics and audiences.
Godfather is planned to release in cinemas on 5 October 2022, coinciding with the festival of Vijayadashami. All India distribution by Chiranjeevi’s Konidela Production Company with PVR Pictures and overseas distribution by Sarigama Cinemas through Phars Film.[27][28]
