Premise
Darcy and Tom get their lovable but very opinionated families for the ultimate destination wedding just as the couple get cold feet but suddenly everyone's lives are in danger when the entire party is taken hostage. The couple must work together to save their loved ones if they don't end up killing each other first.

Development
The film was first announced on January 29, 2019, with Ryan Reynolds attached to star, Pitch Perfect's Jason Moore directing and Mark Hammer writing the screenplay alongside Liz Meriwether. Todd Lieberman and David Hoberman of Mandeville Films would produce the film alongside Reynolds through his production company Maximum Effort.[4] Lopez, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, and Benny Medina joined as producers of the film through Nuyorican Productions in October 2020.
Casting
On October 27, 2020, Jennifer Lopez was cast as the female lead. Armie Hammer was also cast, replacing Reynolds,[5] before dropping out in January 2021 in the wake of abuse allegations against him.[6] Upon the announcement of his exit, Hammer said in a statement:
I'm not responding to these bullshit claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic. Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I'm grateful to them for that.[6]
On January 19, 2021, Josh Duhamel entered early negotiations to replace Hammer, with his casting confirmed the following month. Sônia Braga and Jennifer Coolidge were also cast in starring roles.[7] On February 16, 2021, Lenny Kravitz, Cheech Marin, D'Arcy Carden, Selena Tan, Desmin Borges, and Alex Mallari Jr. were cast.[8] On May 7, 2021, Callie Hernandez and Steve Coulter joined the cast of the film.[9]
Filming
Filming was originally planned to commence in the summer of 2019,[4] but was later rescheduled to February 22, 2021, with shooting taking place in Boston and the Dominican Republic.[10] Lopez announced on Instagram that principal photography had officially wrapped on April 22, 2021.[11]
Release
The film was originally scheduled to be theatrically released by Lionsgate on June 29, 2022.[12] In March 2022, Amazon Studios acquired the rights to the film and will release it digitally on Prime Video.[13] It will be released on the streaming service on January 27, 2023.[14]
