The Amazing Maurice is a 2022 3D computer-animated fantasy-comedy film directed by Toby Genkel and co-directed by Florian Westermann, and released by Sky Cinema. It is based on the 2001 book The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents by Terry Pratchett,[3][4] and stars Hugh Laurie, Emilia Clarke, David Thewlis, Himesh Patel, Gemma Arterton, and Hugh Bonneville.[5]

It premiered at the Manchester Animation Festival on November 13, 2022, and is scheduled to be released in United Kingdom on December 16, 2022, and in the United States on January 13, 2023.

Production


In June 2019, the adaptation of Terry Pratchett's novel into an animated film was announced.[13] Additionally, Terry Rossio was stated to be the screenplay writer, Carter Goodrich the concept character designer, Toby Genkel the film's director, and Julia Stuart of SKY, Rob Wilkins of Narrativia, Emely Christians, Robert Chandler and Andrew Baker as producers.[14] In October 2019, sales for the film began and art work from the production was released.[15] The voice cast of Hugh Laurie, Emilia Clarke, David Thewlis, Himesh Patel, Gemma Arterton and Hugh Bonneville was announced in November 2020.[2] David Tennant, Rob Brydon, Julie Atherton and Joe Sugg were added to the voice cast in May 2021.[16] The film has the full support of the Pratchett Estate and is produced in association with Narrativia.[citation needed] Gabrielle Aplin announced in October 2022 that she had written several songs for the soundtrack.
