On January 18, 2021, it was announced that a secret film written and directed by Joanna Hogg and starring Tilda Swinton has wrapped filming.[5] On January 27, 2021, it was confirmed that A24 acquired the worldwide distribution rights.[6][7]

The film was shot in secret in Wales during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown.[6]


Release


The film had its world premiere at the 79th Venice International Film Festival on September 6, 2022.[2][8] It also screened at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival.[9][10] and the 60th New York Film Festival.[11][12] It is scheduled to be released on December 2, 2022.


Reception


On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 95% of 44 critics' reviews are positive, with an average rating of 7.80/10.[13] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned the film a score of 73 out of 100, based on 18 critics, indicating "generally favorable reviews".[14]
