The film is based on a novel by Bryan Edgar Wallace, one of several films made in an attempt to capitalize on Rialto Film's successful series of adaptions of the novels of his father, Edgar Wallace. It was shot at Spandau Studios in Berlin with sets designed by art director Hans Jürgen Kiebach and Ernst Schomer.

The film is also known by the alternative title The Racetrack Murders.

Das siebente Opfer (auch in der Schreibweise Das 7. Opfer)[2] ist ein deutscher Kriminalfilm, der 1964 unter der Regie von Franz Josef Gottlieb in West-Berlin gedreht wurde. Die Verfilmung des Romans Mit Mord begann es (Originaltitel: Murder Is Not Enough) von Bryan Edgar Wallace war der siebente von insgesamt zehn Bryan-Edgar-Wallace-Filmen von Artur Brauners CCC-Film, mit denen der Filmproduzent am Erfolg der 1959 gestarteten Edgar-Wallace-Serie der Konkurrenz teilhaben wollte. Filmstart in den bundesdeutschen Kinos war am 27. November 1964.
