In his student days he served in a number of leadership positions of the Baloch Students Organization (BSO) as Chairman of BSO and also remained Editor of BSO Organs i.e"Girok","Sangat" and "Bam"(1978–82). He delivered thesis in National and International Seminars on different issues since 1974.

Habib Jalib Baloch's principal achievement was his development of a distinctive articulation of Historical Traditions Of Pre-Colonial Period In [Balochistan] And Their Role in the Struggle for National and social liberation. BALOCHISTAN and anti colonial national movement in Balochistan is phenomena, The essence of which is yet not been studied completely and comprehensively on dialectico-historical materialistic basis. His work offers scientific analysis of the evolution of Baloch society, Traditions, Statehood, and National Formation, based on philosophy, Political Economy and Periodization of history.
He was shot dead by unknown persons in Quetta on July 14, 2010.[2][3][4] Following his assassination, protests were held in cities across Pakistan while a general strike was held across Balochistan province for three days.[5]
He belonged to Perekani Tribe. He was the key member of BNP.
