PLOT SYNOPSIS
Film is set in a time when radio broadcasts were all "local" and could not get beyond their origin city.
Impoverished roommates Rix Martin(Payne) and Chuck Hadley(Oakie) are determined to be the first to do a Coast-to-Coast
radio broadcast;investing what little profit their local station makes into advanced radio equipment.
They get their wish when they bootleg the 1919 heavyweight championship prizefight between Jess Willard and Jack Dempsey from
ringside in Toledo,Ohio.(There is some fractured history,as Willard was knocked out in the third round;not the first).
Meanwhile, the station's band singer(Faye) finds herself swamped with suitors---Payne,Oakie,and wealthy playboy Bruce
Chadwick(Romero),without whose financial backing the radio station could not function.
